Insecurities about your smile can be a confidence killer. One of the biggest complaints many people have with their teeth often relates to their position. Though, while you may not be happy about the appearance of gaps, overcrowded, and protruding teeth, they also come with oral health risks.
A couple of decades ago, your only option to fix these problems would be to wear a brace. However, we know that metal appliances are not for everyone. Thankfully, there’s an easier way. Invisalign. But how does Invisalign work and what do you need to know before choosing this treatment option?
Let’s take a look at this revolutionary way of straightening your teeth.
Invisalign is the world’s most popular invisible aligner system. Designed to reposition misaligned, crowded, and gappy teeth, Invisalign uses removable plastic trays. This means there’s not a metal wire or bracket in sight.
The system has been in use for 25 years. Since then, millions of people worldwide have improved the confidence they have in their smiles.
There’s no age limit on straightening your teeth. While teenagers quite commonly have braces, there’s no reason adults that want or need to straighten their teeth cannot be treated. The subtle Invisalign aligner quietly gets to work, letting you get on and enjoy life without discomfort.
The first stage in the process is the initial consultation. We’ll take a look at your teeth and let you know whether we think this is the right treatment option for you. Next, we’ll take some scans and impressions. These will be sent off to the lab and your aligners will be made.
The medical-grade plastic aligners gently apply pressure to your teeth, slowly moving them into the perfect position. Each aligner tray is custom-made to fit your mouth, carrying out the specific movements needed to straighten your smile.
Every few weeks, we’ll give you a new set of aligners. Each new set is slightly different from the last and will help take your teeth to the next stage on their journey toward smile perfection.
You’ll wear your aligner for as much of the day and night as possible; however, you can remove them to brush your teeth or eat. We’d suggest you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day to achieve the best results.
Everyone is different. Some people need Invisalign to treat complex malocclusions that require many different steps. For others, the treatment is much simpler. We’ll be able to let you know exactly how long you can expect to wear your aligners for at the start of the treatment. Treatment lengths usually vary from around 6-18 months.
Once the treatment is completed, we usually suggest you wear a retainer to keep your teeth in their new position.
We’d love to help build confidence in your smile. We think that Invisalign is one of the best treatment options for correcting issues with the position of your teeth.
