Crown lengthening is used to help extend the natural surface of the tooth.
We may recommend crown lengthening in order to better perform another treatment such as a bridge, implant, veneers, crowns, or composite bonding. You might also decide to receive crown lengthening to treat a ‘gummy smile’.
This is when the surface of the tooth is smaller than is normal, revealing more of the gums especially when you smile. Having a ‘gummy smile’ can make many people feel self-conscious when they smile, but with the help of crown lengthening, we can help rectify that.
While the treatment is fairly routine, it does require a high level of skill and training, combined with a sense of artistry to help create the best, most natural finish possible. We will administer a local anaesthetic before the treatment so that you don’t feel a thing.
