A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth and uses the surrounding teeth as support. In this way, a prosthetic tooth – or teeth – is held in place using the natural teeth surrounding it as a kind of anchor. Some patients may also have to be fitted with a crown to make sure the bridge is stable and fully supported.
There are a number of different bridge types. A Maryland bridge uses a frame of either metal or porcelain and is attached to the back of the surrounding teeth. An adhesive bridge can be fitted to the surrounding natural teeth using a metal wing, and a cantilever bridge only needs one natural tooth to use as a support.
There are benefits to every type of bridge available, but the right one for you will depend on your own unique circumstances. If you think you’re in need of a bridge, then you can get in touch with us here at Harley Private Dental and we will be happy to talk through all your options with you.
