Traditionally, fillings have been made of a metal amalgam that appears silver when applied to the teeth. White fillings are designed to fit in much more naturally with the rest of the mouth, allowing for a more subtle finish that can help enhance your smile.
White fillings are made of a tooth-coloured composite material. This can be colour-matched to exactly mimic your teeth, or you can choose to go a shade whiter to help enhance the appearance of your teeth.
White fillings perform the exact same function as a traditional amalgam filling, and will help support and maintain the proper function of your tooth in the long-term. They can also be easily sculpted and shaped into the correct anatomical shape of your tooth. This not only helps create a more uniform finish, but aids in better function too.
Traditional amalgam fillings can also contribute to the weakening of the natural tooth, which in turn can cause other issues such as cracks in the tooth. White fillings on the other hand are bonded to the tooth which reduces the chance of this happening, contributing to a happier, healthier tooth overall.
