Our cosmetic dentures can be designed to perfectly mimic your natural smile, or you can choose to enhance and transform your smile with a new set of teeth.
Traditional removable dentures are designed to replace multiple missing teeth. Depending on the extent of the tooth loss present, dentures can be full or partial. They are made up of an acrylic or chrome base that sits over the gums, and a set of prosthetic teeth.
At Harley Private Dental, we always recommend replacing missing teeth wherever possible. Missing teeth can lead to further oral and dental issues such as misalignment, debris getting caught, and bone loss. It can also cause difficulty eating and speaking, and causes many patients to feel self-conscious and ashamed of their smile.
Receiving dentures usually involves visiting us here at the practice for four separate appointments. At the first appointment we will take an initial impression of your mouth, and at the second appointment we’ll take a secondary impression and bite registration.
Once ready, you’ll return to the practice to have the dentures fitted. This is usually done over two different appointments, first with the teeth set in wax, and then for the final fit of the dentures.
We will also arrange for tooth extraction should that be a necessary part of your treatment plan. If this is the case, we can fit you with immediate dentures which are designed to be fitted immediately after an extraction. If you have been fitted with immediate dentures, you will need to return to the practice for relining or replacing after healing, which usually happens after about three months.
We would recommend eating only soft foods after first getting your dentures fitted. This is to help you get used to eating with your new dentures although in the longer term, you will find it much easier to eat. When you get your dentures fitted, we’ll also advise you on adhesives and how best to care for your dentures moving forward.
