Before we discuss how Enlighten brightens your smile and removes stains, we need to discuss how they get there in the first place. Much of the staining that you may experience can be caused by food and drink. Some of the most common stain-inducing items include:
Your teeth get their natural whiteness from the enamel. This tough coating can become thinner as you age. As it thins, the darker layer of dentin beneath starts to become visible through the enamel. This gives your teeth a yellow appearance.
Enlighten uses chemical oxidation to break down the stains on the surface of your teeth. Using whitening trays filled with a special gel that passes through your enamel, it’s possible to brighten your teeth by up to 16 shades.
You’ll carry out the majority of your treatment in the comfort of your own home, but first we’ll need to get impressions of your teeth so that your whitening trays can be made to measure. We’ll also get you started using a special toothpaste that strengthens your enamel and reduces sensitivity during the treatment.
Once your custom trays are ready, you can start the treatment. Each night for the next two weeks, you’ll wear the trays. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and safe.
After the two weeks are up, we’ll get you back into the clinic for a final 40 minute appointment where we’ll lighten your teeth by the final few shades.
