Put simply, a Single Tooth Dental Implant is a dental implant used to replace a single missing tooth – or a tooth that has been extracted due to damage, decay, or wear and tear. A Single Tooth Dental Implant is made up of a metal screw – usually made of titanium – that is affixed to the jaw, and a prosthetic tooth that is applied on top of it. This offers a secure and comfortable replacement for a missing tooth.
We always recommend replacing a missing or extracted tooth wherever possible. Missing teeth can cause a multitude of further oral and dental health issues, including the movement of the remaining teeth and possible bone loss. It can also cause distress in the patient, whether because it is harder to eat or speak, or because it is causing them to feel self-conscious about their teeth and smile. A Single Tooth Dental Implant provides a great solution to all these issues.
Single Tooth Dental Implants are applied over a series of appointments, and the process can take a few months to complete. We will first have to evaluate the health of your jaw to be sure you are a suitable candidate for an implant. Once this has been established, the implant will be fixed in place at your first appointment. There will then be a wait of a few months while the implant and the jaw fuse together, at which point you’ll return to the practice to have your prosthetic tooth applied. We will be able to provide you with a temporary denture during the intervening period.
