A crown is a dental restoration used when a simple filling won’t suffice. Acting as a kind of ‘crown’ or ‘cap’ for the tooth, a crown is designed to help repair and protect a tooth that has been damaged as a result of decay or injury. They are also often used in conjunction with another treatment, such as a large filling or root canal treatment, in order to ensure the long-term form and functionality of the tooth.
Like many restorations crowns can be made of a variety of materials, but most are made of a precious metal such as gold, porcelain, or Zirconia.
At Harley Private Dental, we’ll take a scan of the mouth and do a thorough examination, prepare the tooth, then return upon a separate occasion once the restoration has been made at a dental laboratory. Receiving a crown, inlay or onlay or other restoration requires multiple appointments at the practice, During this time, you would be fitted with a temporary restoration until you return for the permanent restoration to be fitted. Once the crown has been fitted it should look, feel and function just like any other tooth
blending seamlessly with the rest of your mouth. If you’d like to learn more about crowns, or any of the restorations we offer here at Harley Private Dental, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
